Safely Home!

April 6th, 2008

Well, after a long day of travel, we arrived home and we still had everyone :)
Below are the slide shows from day 8 (the one that never got posted because of the internet going down) and 9+ (9 and 10). Enjoy and thank you all for your prayers!
p.s. I’ll be blogging every Friday, so feel free to keep coming here for announcements about ministry events and glimpses into the random brain of Casey Box!

It’s traveling day!

April 5th, 2008

First off, I would like to apologize for my silence over the last day and a half, the internet went down as I was trying to load the slide show from day 8. But it is now back up and running, and so I am getting this final blog in before we leave.
Yesterday was another great day of weeding, digging, painting and sheet-rocking. The weather was pretty hot and so it wore us down pretty quickly. But everyone endured and stayed with thier projects. I was very proud of the students and leaders for how hard they worked. Believe it or not, but we wore out the men that are staying at the Ranch. Yesterday was finished off by a couple games of volleyball, some more hunting expeditions and a big bonfire.
Now, the students are eating breakfast, and then we pack and clean and hit the road. The drive from the Compound to the border is about 2 hours. Then we cross the border, hop on the trolly, hop on the bus, and check in at the airport. Our flight to PDX is Alaska Airlines 475 and is scheduled to arrive at 10:04pm. Parents, you can pick up your kid at the airport at that time or back at the church at 11:00pm.
Thank you all for your prayers over the course of this trip and for your prayers today as we travel. Our time down here has been very eye-opening and impactful. We have developed many relationships that will be missed and connections that will last for eternity. It will be hard to leave and say goodbye; but at the same time, it is exciting to come back home with a renewed excitment and passion for God and this world! We will see you all very soon, but until then, goodbye :)

Day 8 - Thursday

April 3rd, 2008

Hello, and thank you for checking in on us and for your prayers.

Just like everyday before it, today was awesome! We got up and ate breakfast, headed off to the Ranch, and got started on our projects (weeding, digging, etc…). As I worked with James, a missionary with Calvary Chapel Pedregales, on pulling out dead trees with the back hoe, we found ourselves a nice sized Gopher Snake. That lead to some good entertainment as we walked around displaying our find. Then we headed back to the Compound for lunch. After lunch we went back out to the Ranch (well, after we ran out of gas and had some brought to us) and spent the afternoon just relaxing and hanging with the guys at the Ranch. We played some games of volleyball, went on hunting expeditions, and chilled for a while. Afterwards, we headed home for dinner and had a nice evening here at the Compound.

Tomorrow is our last day of working (Saturday is just travel) and we are excited to finish up some of the projects that we started. Please pray for our health and safety as we work outside all day. We have had numerous people get sunburned today, and that will again be an issue tomorrow. Also, please pray that we can show God’s love to the guys at the Ranch and help them move towards Christ-like living.

Below are some photos of the Compound and Thursdays activities. Either later tonight or tomorrow morning, I’ll update this post with a slide show from the day.

Thank you again for your prayers and enjoy!

Well, well, well, fancy meeting you here :)

Hello everybody and thank you for checking in on us and for your prayers. Today was a great day of getting outside and doing some physical labor. We had beautiful weather and a lot of work to get started on. Everyone was busy working on something, and everyone did a great job working. Our attitudes stayed positive and our skin did not fry! Praise the Lord for that. We have two more full days working out here before we head home, so please keep praying that we stay healthy and focused.

Below are some photos and a slide show from the Ranch where we were working. I didn’t really get any pictures from the Compound, so I’ll take care of that tomorrow and post them tomorrow night-ish.
