Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, Washington seeks a Communications Manager to direct promotion of the news, ministries, and outreaches of Crossroads Community Church to internal and external audiences, as well as coordinate and manage all strategic communications.

This person will coordinate and produce communication and communication flow through publications (i.e. the Bulletin), electronic communications including email, web, and social media outlets, serve as consultant and creative force behind ministry-specific communications projects, coordinate external media relations and advertising. This will be achieved with the help of Crossroads’ staff creative team personnel (video, web, and graphics).

People skills are vital. Effectively working on a team is a must. Management skills for projects and people are important.

Preference will be given to candidates who have communications experience with a not-for-profit, church or similar organization.

Reports to: Associate Pastor

Responsibilities: To direct promotion of the news, ministries, and outreaches of Crossroads Community Church to internal and external audiences, as well as coordinate and manage all strategic communications.

Job duties:

Communications:

  • Coordinate and produce regular publications (including, but not limited to worship service bulletins, bulletin inserts, newsletters, electronic bulletin, visitor and ministry brochures and posters, etc.) in a timely, accurate and presentable manner consistent with Crossroads’ vision and branding;
  • Work with church Web Master in strategic communication between web, social media, email, Youtube, etc. for coordination of efforts to keep information and campaigns accurate, up-to-date, and consistent with Crossroads’ vision and branding;
  • Act as a gateway, consultant and quality control check on all church communication products, including those produced within individual ministries of the church;
  • Negotiate and coordinate the print production process with outside vendors as needed;
  • Keep the Crossroads family fully informed about events and church news through various media and new media outlets;
  • Act as a conduit for information to be shared with congregation and staff;
  • Act as the church contact for external media seeking information from or about the church;
  • Create and coordinate efforts to advertise church activities, functions, services and general information to the local community, as well as consult with ministries who are communicating with the local community;
  • Act as the project manager of all communication team activities, ensuring that they are completed in a timely, accurate and presentable manner consistent with Crossroads’ vision and branding;
  • Shrewd management of all communications-related budget line items and timely processing of check requisitions, billings and invoices, with assistance from the Worship Ministry Executive Assistant;
  • Prepare and submit annual budget proposals to the Associate Pastor for budget considerations, with assistance from the Worship Ministry Executive Assistant;
  • Oversee continual refinement of Crossroads’ communications policies and procedures to assure achievement of church leadership’s objectives and vision;
  • Coordinate other special projects and perform other duties as directed by the Associate Pastor or Senior Pastor.

First Impressions ministry:

  • Oversee communications information, kiosk, and volunteers as part of First Impressions ministry on Sunday mornings.
  • Help train and inspire volunteers who fill communication-related positions on Sunday mornings and Tuesday nights.

Facility Rentals:

  • Serve as a key person in the booking and sales process for venue rentals, including concerts and conferences; (Includes an average of 5 events per year.)
  • Handle all facility rental inquiries;
  • Set and lead site tour appointments with potential clients;
  • Coordinate details associated with venue bookings, including: set-up schedule; load-in schedules; insurance certificates; parking permits; facilities requests; security; ushers; etc. in conjunction with clients’ needs and venue requirements;
  • Coordinate correspondence and necessary forms (i.e. contracts, proposals, cover letters, invoices, emails, etc.); maintain accurate and up-to-date project and event files;
  • Assign event coordinator and assure that coordinator is current on event details, and ready to handle the event on the scheduled day(s);
  • Remain in contact with event coordinator and client prior to and during events;
  • Work in conjunction with management to insure that signature events, school events, and church events do not conflict;
  • Update event calendar upon confirming a date hold or booking request;
  • Provide progress report to Associate Pastor indicating possible bookings and booking rollouts;

Skills and Requirements

  • Communications experience with a not-for-profit, church or similar organization preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in some aspect of mass communication preferred, though not required.
  • Prior experience in public relations or related field preferred.
  • Prior management experience with people and projects preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with command of the English language, proper style, usage and punctuation preferred.
  • Comfortable with computers, and proficient with word processing and presentation applications (i.e. Microsoft Word and Powerpoint).
  • Understanding of how communications works with New Media including websites, social media, and email development and management.
  • Effective and pleasant interpersonal, networking and supervisory skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to plan, organize and multitask in a deadline intensive environment, including effective time management.
  • Good listening skills, tact, and consensus building skills.
  • Patience and perseverance.
  • Familiarity with video production (direction as opposed to technical skills).

  • Successfully complete a background check
