Worship Ministry Application

Worship Team

As with our church, our worship team exists to help us to KNOW Jesus more, GROW in His life together, and encourage us to SHOW His love to each other and our community. Worship is our life's statement to Jesus, and one of the ways we connect with Him is through singing to Him. We have so many things we can express to Him in music. We sing songs that talk about who He is, we express songs of prayer, we sing about about theological ideas, we deepen our commitment to Him as we sing songs of surrender, and we get excited about our faith as we sing songs of revival.

Our worship team is a collection of  musicians and singers who desire to connect with the church body at Crossroads and encourage them to draw near to God and worship Him, not just through music but with their lives, bringing glory to Him. Our worship team recognizes that it's a privilege to lead our church community in worship, and it's an honor for us to help our church community however we are able. Our corporate gatherings are basically just a bigger version of a small group of believers gathering to grow together in the Lord,  deciding to sing a worship song or two, and asking a person if they can lead the singing because they are gifted in music. It's  not really about the person leading, it's about facilitating the community in their desire to lift up worship together, draw near to God, and hear His voice in a dynamic way.

Because we desire to draw near to God in the setting of praise and worship, many of the gatherings at Crossroads use worship teams as part of their service. Whether it's Children's Ministry, Student Ministries, College/Young Adults, Men's and Women's, Singles or Sunday Services in the Sanctuary, they all look forward to sharing times of worship together. As a result, there are many needs and opportunities in the area of worship leading and worship ministry.

In order to give prospective musicians and singers a clear avenue to become a part of the various worship ministries in our church, we have a structured audition process that looks at the scope of both spiritual and musical talents. Current ministry needs are taken into consideration, and we work hard to find the best fit for both the individual and the ministry.

We hope that you enjoy your worship experience with us at Crossroads, and thanks again for stopping by!

How To Get Involved

If you want to serve the Lord in the area of music in the worship ministry at Crossroads, this starts by feeling called to be a part of worship ministry. What does that look like? It's different for everybody, but "calling" simply means an urge that comes from God to serve Him in a certain way. He enables the calling to work through gifting, natural ability, and desire, but at the same time it's vital that this calling is done in His strength and with His blessing.

Before becoming involved in volunteering at Crossroads in a leadership capacity like the worship ministry, it's important that you are a part of the Crossroads church body. We ask that you take time to get a feel for the ministry and ask God if He is calling you to be a part of our Crossroads church family, and ask questions of the staff if you are exploring your commitment to the church. Our worship ministry is a group of believers who are serving other believers, giving back to the community that they are a part of.

We hold open auditions once each year, and welcome vocalists and instrumentalists age 18 and over that fit the above criteria to participate.

Worship Choir

Our Crossroads Community Church choir meets seasonally to present music at special events, especially focusing on Christmas and Easter because of their significance to our faith and the impact that music brings to these powerful moments in the Christian calendar.

Our choir's style of music is fairly broad and we try to choose music that best fits our seasons and community, and match that to available choir collections. Our worship choir has sung everything from gospel songs to traditional classical music. This not only makes our singing involvement challenging, but stretches our love for music and the creative canvas that God has given us to worship Him and reach others with His love and life. The bottom line is it's all about sharing the message of Jesus, worshiping Him, and encouraging the church body to join in worship.

We all love to sing, but more importantly, we love to worship God with our lives. Our choir is a "family" of believers who every week demonstrate their love for God and their love for each other.

If this rings true in your heart, and you have some experience that validates and encourages your desire to sing, we encourage you to check out whether choir is in the season and join us at our next rehearsal.

When and Where?

Choir usually meets in late September through Christmas, and again in late January through Easter. Rehearsals are typically weekly in the Music Room, located on the 2nd floor of the Activity Center on the west end of the building.

Because there is so much music and we all need enough time to learn it, the Christmas and Easter seasons have deadlines for accepting new members. These deadlines are usually about two to three weeks after the season officially begins.

Childcare is provided during rehearsals.

Worship Ministry

Our church is a worshiping church. What does this mean? Well, it means much more than music. The best way to describe it is taken from Romans 12, in The Message. It says, "So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: take your everyday, ordinary life - your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life - and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you."

At Crossroads, music is one of the ways we encourage a life of worship – a life that brings glory to God and draws nearer and nearer to Jesus. When our community gathers and sings songs to God and about God, we experience His amazing presence and hear His voice. Our worship helps us express who God is, sing our prayers, celebrate His greatness, thank Him, and encourage each other with His truth.

The worship songs we sing are contemporary in style, but range from ancient hymns to the latest choruses, and everything in between. We believe that worship is an expression of the gathered community, not a performance of a chosen few on stage, and to that end our worship team is committed to the mission of our church: helping others to KNOW Jesus, GROW in His life, and SHOW His love to each other and the city we live in.
